Spain prepares for World Cup final against Argentina

Spain’s National Team is set to face Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday, a match that will pit the European champions against the defending world champions. The final practice session saw players like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams demonstrating strong form, which could pose a challenge for Argentina’s goalkeeper, Dibu Martínez.
The upcoming final represents a significant moment for Spain, marking the culmination of a tournament where Luis de la Fuente’s squad has evolved into a formidable team. Following a decisive semifinal victory over France, La Roja enters the final with considerable confidence.
Injury Concerns and Preparations
Despite the team’s overall readiness, there have been some injury concerns. Lamine Yamal, a key player for Spain, was observed training separately from the main group due to discomfort in his left thigh. This issue arose after he sustained a heavy blow during the semifinal match against France, when Lucas Digne fouled him inside the penalty area, leading to a penalty converted by Mikel Oyarzabal.
The discomfort intensified after the match, prompting medical staff to manage his workload carefully. This fresh injury concern for the 19-year-old comes shortly after he recovered from a hamstring tear in April. However, the decision to have him train individually is largely a preventative measure, according to reports. Yamal has been a central figure in Spain’s campaign, having played in every match of the tournament, including scoring in the 4-0 group-stage win against Saudi Arabia.

Luis de la Fuente, Spain’s head coach, confirmed that Yamal’s absence from full training was a precautionary step. He stated that Yamal had a knock from the previous game and that the separate training was for his safety and peace of mind, as well as due to slight discomfort that prevented him from training normally. Yamal was back training as usual on Friday, and De la Fuente expressed confidence in his readiness for the final.
Another player with fitness concerns is Pedro Porro. The Tottenham full-back, who was named MVP of the semifinal after scoring Spain’s second goal against France, is also on a modified training schedule. His issue is described as muscle fatigue, a result of the high volume of minutes he has played throughout the knockout stages. Porro’s significant physical effort in Dallas led to him being replaced by Marcos Llorente in the closing stages of the semifinal match. After featuring against Saudi Arabia in the group stage, Porro has played in every knockout match, scoring against Austria and featuring against Portugal, Belgium, and France.

Anticipation for the Final
Despite these separate training schedules, De la Fuente remains optimistic about having a full squad available for Sunday’s match. He expressed hope that there would be no problems with his key players. Spain is aiming to secure its second World Cup title, adding to its 2010 triumph in South Africa. Meanwhile, Argentina is pursuing its fourth world crown, building on its previous victories in 1978, 1986, and 2022.
The final is anticipated to be a clash of styles, with Europe facing South America, and Spain’s possession-based play meeting Argentina’s resilience. The match offers an opportunity for one nation to add another chapter to its footballing history.
