Manchester United goalkeeper seeks summer transfer for first-team football
Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has publicly expressed his desire to leave the club this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football. The 22-year-old Czech youth international made his intentions clear following United‘s friendly match against Wrexham, stating he is ready for either a loan move or a permanent exit from Old Trafford.
Vitek, who joined United‘s academy set-up in 2020, has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for the club. He has spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley, Bristol City, and with FC Blau-Weiß Linz in Austria. During the friendly against Wrexham on Saturday, Vitek played the second half, keeping a clean sheet, but used the post-match interview to discuss his future.
Seeking Regular Playing Time
Speaking to reporters, Vitek stated, “I feel great and ready to go again. Someday I hope to be a No. 1.” He further added, “At the moment I am still here, but we will see, I hope (I can leave). I hope there will be some interest. You will know when things are more concrete.”
The goalkeeper indicated he has no preference between a loan or a permanent transfer, emphasising his primary goal is to play every week. “I am ready to go for both, to be fair,” he explained. “Depends what the club wants, depends on the options, we’ll see.” He confirmed that there is interest from other clubs, saying, “There is interest on the table, but we are hoping to get the best one.”
Vitek‘s desire for consistent playing time stems from his development over the past few years. “I think I have grown in the past two and a half years, I’ve been on a few loans. I have grown person-wise, and on the pitch as well. I feel ready before the season for a loan.” He highlighted his impressive campaign with Bristol City last season, where he reportedly swept the board at their player of the year awards.
The goalkeeping situation at Manchester United has seen several developments. Senne Lammens is currently established as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. The recent free signing of Karl Darlow and Tom Heaton‘s contract extension have further diminished Vitek‘s prospects of securing a first-team role this season. While there was a vacancy for a new No. 2 goalkeeper following Andre Onana‘s loan to Trabzonspor and Altay Bayindir‘s anticipated departure, Vitek made it clear he was not interested in filling that role, prioritising regular starts.
Development and Future Outlook
Despite his desire to leave, Vitek has continued to train at Carrington, benefiting from the experience of Tom Heaton and goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson. He acknowledged their significant role in his development, stating, “I have been working here with Craig nearly six years now. And obviously with Tom as well, quite a long time. They have been massively important. Also this pre-season, it helps me a lot. I can work with them and hopefully get myself ready as best as possible.”
Vitek‘s public statement reflects a broader trend in football regarding the management of young talent. With a contract at Manchester United until June 2028, his estimated market value is around €6 million. This figure, while modest for a Premier League club, represents capital tied up in a player not contributing to the first team. The club is reportedly tempted to capitalise on the young goalkeeper, especially given his strong performance at Bristol City.
The most probable outcome for Vitek is either a permanent transfer or another loan with an option to buy. His valuation is considered accessible for several clubs across Europe’s top leagues and strong second divisions. As Vitek seeks to secure a starting position, he hopes for a swift resolution to his future, stating, “I think hopefully we will find out soon where that is gonna be.”
